Another common question I feel inclined to ask myself...?
I love the sheltie, this is my second pack and yes they can be barky. The trick is to teach them not to bark and you have to reinforce it all their life, you know gentle reminders like don't bark in a normal tone, I always say use your indoor voices. Our barker of this pack is my eight month old, it's only age and more training and it will be under control. Adoption is a noble act but you don't know what kind of baggage they carry, I got my dogs from show houses, they sell the ones that don't come up to their standards but their personality's are more predictable and they have been genetically tested. A shelties can range from 12 inches to 18 inch, I know this because I have one of each. The standard shelties should be 13 to 16 inches and hover around the weight you want. They can be a tough little dog and they love to work or run, if they can do it with the person they love all the better.Training is very important, what is cute as a puppy is not so cute as an adult, you can teach the dog is get along with anybody or anything it is all up to you. They need grooming everyday just to keep the hair from taking over the house and brushing their teeth is a must. This is really for any dog but more so for the double coated dogs. I love the sheltie breed and I would suggest you go to agility cles with them, you'll run and they will too. When you get your dog just be the person your dog thinks you are.
