Grammar check please?

For me, the most important skill to achieve my dream as a translator is writing. Writing is important because it enables me to persuade people who are prejudiced about other cultures. When I was in high school, I lost my self confidence while I was learning along with native English speakers in America. However, that lack of confidence fueled me to try to be better. I tried to focus on my goal; to write in English well. Since I knew reading well equals to writing well, I often ran to the public library soon after I was dismissed from school.
