Adopting a new born, when do I take to DR?

Okay so my husband and I are adopting a baby. We are part of an HMO and can't seem to get any real answers. If I was pregnant they would answer my questions, if I gave birth the hospital would point me in the right direction. So I turn to you hoping to get real answers. I know that babies have to have regular check ups when you first bring them home. When do I need to make my first apt? next question I am a diabetic and on Glucophage can I feed? My Dr. won't answer because i'm not pregnant.. When we first get the baby we have to stay in a hotel room in Idaho for 2-3 weeks while awaiting a judges permission to bring the baby home. I am a germaphobe and already bought lots of clorox wipes for the room. =) but I really am not sure what to expect in those first few weeks. I know that babies temps run a little higher and I know the basics of taking care of a child. i just feel like I am missing a lot of information because god didn't bless me with the gift of being pregnant. I know some of this stuff is intuition and I will get the hang of it.. But I do want to know some of the basics.
